Gifted with a natural talent for working with his hands, he took on various side jobs for local businesses to help his family make ends meet. One of these jobs involved building wooden boxes and shelves for warehouses. After graduating high school in 1960, Bob joined the NYC Laborers Union and began his career at Teller Paving Company as a laborer, building highways in the Bronx.
